Giving to Beebe Supports Our Community’s Health
BEEBE MEDICAL FOUNDATION raises money to help fulfill Beebe Healthcare’s mission to encourage healthy living and prevent illness, and to restore optimal health to the people who live in, work in, and visit our community.
Whether it’s a routine checkup, managing a chronic disease like diabetes, or something more serious like knee replacement or a cancer diagnosis, our goal is to ensure that you have the care you need close to home.
The way that Beebe can continue to expand its services and ensure that our neighbors have the level of care they need is through the generosity of our friends, grateful patients, and donors. With every gift that the community gives, we are better able to fulfill Beebe’s mission. This philosophy has been the driving force in all that we do, dating back to the early 1920s, when Helen and Benjamin Shaw made a philanthropic gift that allowed Beebe to grow from a two-room hospital to a 30-bed facility.
The impact of our community’s support continues to be impressive. Over the last five years, donors have generously given over $40 million. Gifts have been as large as the $10 million transformational gift from the Ma-Ran Foundation, and smaller donations from grateful patients are just as meaningful and impact our ability to expand and provide the care and services our community needs.
These gifts also help with major initiatives like our expansion efforts, which total more than $200 million at locations across Sussex County. Our donors’ gifts can be seen in action through the current construction of the new hybrid operating room on the Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus. When this new surgical theater opens in the fall, our fellowship-trained vascular surgeons will have access to the most advanced technology, typically available only at larger health systems.
The expansion plan also includes construction of a new Specialty Surgical Hospital at the Rehoboth Health Campus, and a new freestanding emergency department, along with the state-of-the-art second location for our renowned cancer program at the South Coastal Health Campus near Millville.
Beyond the brick-and-mortar, philanthropic support helps fund nursing scholarships, professional development of our clinicians, and home care and wellness programs. Donors are able to designate their gift to a specific area of healthcare that is important to them. All gifts truly make a difference.
The Foundation has grown substantially over the past six years, and that can be attributed to the hard-working and dedicated team who works tirelessly to support the system. The team has incredibly close relationships with many Sussex County families and businesses who have supported Beebe during this period of growth. We are also fortunate to have many new residents who have relocated to the area and believe in supporting community healthcare. The success of the Foundation is humbling.
