Beebe Healthcare broke ground on its planned South Coastal Health Campus which will include a freestanding Emergency Department and second cancer center on Route 17 in Millville on November 1. On an unseasonable warm fall afternoon, many Beebe team members, local community members, and supporters gathered for this celebratory moment to show their support for this significant forward progression.

Advanced Cancer Care Where Our Patients Live

When Kristen Rahn, Nurse Manager of Radiation Oncology, started at Beebe 19 years ago, the Tunnell Cancer Center on Route 24 near Rehoboth Beach had not been built yet.

“We were seeing our oncology patients at the Lewes Campus and I remember we had such high volumes that we were scheduling patients from 6:30 a.m. all the way through to 10 p.m.,” Kristen recalls. “When we were able to build the Tunnell Cancer Center, it really allowed us to provide the type of patient care we wanted to provide – during normal business hours.”

Embracing the Natural Element: Color Science and Beebe’s South Coastal Health Campus

Beebe’s expansion design team worked with the team at Wilmot Sanz, the architecture and interior design firm chosen for Beebe’s South Coastal Health Campus. Kristen Delgandio, Vice President at Wilmot Sanz, led Beebe’s design team through discussions in determining its interior design selections with the ultimate focus of improving patient experience and staff satisfaction.

Healthcare is Changing, and So is Beebe

The way people receive healthcare services is changing rapidly across the country, and Beebe has been changing how it cares for this community, too. Since the peak in hospital admissions reached early last year, Beebe has successfully reduced the number of people who need to stay in the hospital, through its efforts to broaden and elevate its outpatient care, and keep people healthy.

Designed with the Patient in Mind [VIDEO]

During the planning process for creating a second location for our cancer center, the design team created life-size mock-ups of rooms to allow Tunnell Cancer Center Executive Director Barry Hamp and the team to see what a room might look like and to have the ability to focus on what is best for the patient—right down to where to place coat hooks.
